Updates

This week and last week, I have published several updates :
  • First, the checklist. Most of issues of the new version 6 should be solved now
  • Easy graph. It is now possible to compare two graphs, showing them on the screen at the same time.
  • Inventory manager. i improved the backup system. Now you can use the XML format, which is in my eyes more secure than the previous backup method, which may generate backups incompatible between different versions of Android.
For all these apps I have enabled Android 4.0 Holo theme, and the action bar items. But I still need to adapt the layout for tablets... I don't forget tablet users, it is only a matter of time..

Also, for Easy Graph and Inventory Manager, I have added an in-app purchase to make the transition to the full, ad-free version easier. In the case of Inventory Manager Lite, those who have chosen to pay and support me are ensured that they will always have the same level of functionality as the paid version.

Also, I have published an patch on Checklist app, if you have version 6.0 or 6.1, it's highly recommenced to update.

The kind of comments I hate

What a "pleasure" to receive such comments on Google Play, like today about my app Easy Graph :

Phishing your contacts! Google please get rid of this app from your list. It tries to send my contact info to its server without asking!

Dear Wonyong, please tell me how the hell did you arrived to that conclusion ??? Show me an ethereal trace, or anything to try to demonstrate your lies. If you read this, just give me your mail so I can send you some friendly messages....

I enjoy receiving comments on Google Play, even bad ones, provided people say why they don't like my apps, so I can improve them (when I have time).

But I really hate these kind of comments, totally false and not argued. And I can't answer on Google Play ...

Cloud checklists

There are currently some issues on cloud checklists. The app don't crash, but it's rather some synchronization problems (e.g. deleted item coming back).

I'm working to improve this feature and fix there issues at the same time. Also, I'll remove some limitations on cloud checklists (e.g. not being able to sort the items). I expect to release an update this summer.

While I speak about cloud checklists, I wanted to highlight that this feature is available only with Android 2.2 and above... Android 2.1 users still have the previous version (4.11). I'm not sure if I'll be able to fix that, but I'll think about it when I have released the new version of Checklist.

In app purchase in Checklist

It's been a while since my last post on this blog. I must say I have start a new job recently and I had other matters in mind. I talk about my real life job, the one allowing me to earn my life ;-) This didn't prevent me to answer to mails, and to fix bugs, but I had to take a break with Android development.

I'm now back on my tiny Android apps, and I saw I didn't talk about a new option in free version of CheckList : you can now choose to remove banner ads. But well, of course, this is a paid option :-)

If you decide to buy this option, you won't see anymore those annoying ads on the bottom of the screen in CheckList. And you will then have exactly the same app as the paid version (CheckList ad-free in Google Play), and this will be always true. If I ever publish a feature only for paid app, it will be also available to users who paid in free version.

That's why it should be the same price between paid version and the in-app-purchase. I said "should", because I just fixed a price difference for USD currency....

Update on checklist

I just release an update on Checklist with some bug fixes.

I removed the beta status on cloud feature, that means it's stable for use now. I will begin to remove some limitations (no possibility to sort items, copy, etc...).

Leadbolt Ads

I didn't mention it in change log, but I am testing a new ad in checklist. Well, it comes in addition to banner ads, but it's much less intrusive than those.

You'll find a new menu item, "Top apps", which will show you an "app wall", with a selection of apps from Leadbolt. (yeah !! could post my referral link !! :D)

I hope it won't disturb you much (well, that's just one more menu item after all...), but also I hope it will make you discover other interesting apps.

edit : I renamed this menu item "Top apps" to a more accurate title "Free apps"

Checklist update : cloud functionality !

it was hard, but finally I managed to release a new major version of Checklist. Great new feature : store your checklists on the cloud. I'm going to be a bit lazy and paste the change log :

* now create your checklists in the cloud ! At the moment, limited to one checklist per user. Still beta testing, so please be forgiving and don't hesitate to report bugs * cloud checklists are shown in blue, italic font on main screen
* share your cloud checklist with friends, get synchronized with them to execute your to do list !
* cloud checklists have some limitations for now
* use your Google account to connect to the cloud
* of course, you still can use this app like before without taking care of cloud functionality
* added "About" dialog box with my mail, my blog and my apps
* added this change log, thanks to Karsten Priegnitz ;)
* Replaced the menu item "New" with a button to add checklists. you can restore previous behavior with an option in settings menu.

I hope this cloud ability will be useful, and I'm curious to see how it will be appreciated (or not)
This app uses Google app engine to store your data, and I'll write soon a confidentiality declaration (it will be very simple : your data will NOT be shared or communicated to anyone without your explicit agreement).

Google app engine gave me some hard time, and I anticipate some bugs with that, but I'll fix them as soon as possible.

At the moment, only free version has been updated with cloud functionality. of course, it will be updated too within some days

Android comments

I will soon remove user comments from my blog. Well, not the comments directly posted there, but the ones I was copying from Android market and pasting in appropriate app page, here on my blog.

I'm starting to have much comments for app "CheckList", and it's making much to scroll. I'll rather post a message here if I see a comment on market awaiting an answer from me.

Also, not much people must have noticed it, but I removed one of my app from market, Expiry reminder. I had less than 100 downloads and no feedback, and I didn't have time to improve it or even write user guide... I prefer to concentrate on my other apps.

Talking about other apps, I'm getting close to a new release of Checklist ;)

Inventory manager : too complex ?

I got several (bad) comments from French users, on Inventory Manager Lite. They find it too complex to use. And at the same time, I am asked for more functionalities by other users :/

I'll think about how I could make it easier to use while continuing to bring functionalities. Maybe i should propose basic and advanced mode ?

Anyway, at the moment, I am working on checklist. I should be able to propose some amazing features at the end of this month, maybe beginning of March.

"Home inventory" becomes "Inventory Manager" & major update

I published 5 minutes ago a new major release of Home Inventory. I published only the free version right now, paid one will be updated tomorrow.

Here's the patch note :
- Low and high stock counts alerts
- Modified expiry and near expiry alerts
- Possibility to change the expiry alert delay (15 days before expiry by default)
- Added product families : use same warning settings for several product codes
- Search option
- Added possibility to show full inventory with filters by location, family and product

Old backups won't be usable anymore, so don't forget to make a new one after update.
I also add some help messages to help you to understand how this app works. These hints are taking some room, so you may hide them with a new menu "Preferences" in main screen.

I hope all this changes will be appreciated, and much more will come later (but not this month, except for bug fixes of course)

By the way, I renamed this app to "Inventory Manager". It's quite subjective, but I think this new title more appropriate now. French title, "Gestion de stock", wasn't changed.

Let me know your comments, by mail, on the market, on directly on this blog.

PS : happy new year 2012 ! :)
